Spotlight: Pearl Khalif-Govan
SCAC is pleased to spotlight Pearl Khalif-Govan. For more than 22 years, Pearl has served as an important member of the association’s administrative team. Prior to joining SCAC in 1999, she worked with the Richland County Health Department.
Pearl’s colleagues appreciate her willingness to always help others. She is an honest, trustworthy, and caring team member. When asked what she enjoys most about her career with the association, she says,
“I treasure my time spent providing support to managers, co-workers, and our 46 counties and officials. Life throws us many curve balls. I have learned that self-control is strength and not to let emotions over power intelligence. You never know what an individual is going through or has been through so be willing to be humble and show empathy. It is not what life brings to you, it is the attitude you choose to give life, which allows me to be thankful every day that I am blessed to be able to work with such an amazing organization.”
To many of our county officials and employees, Pearl is the voice and face of the association. She helps our members register for meetings, conferences, and Institute of Government classes—all of which are geared to help county officials network, learn, and effectively govern. She works closely with the 46 clerks to council to make sure their concerns or questions are resolved in a timely manner.
Pearl’s family is the most important part of her life. From fishing to sewing, she cherishes all the time she spends with her family. Her favorite passage is:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6
