Ambassadors from County Governments To Learn About Ports’ Impact on Economic Success
County leaders from five counties are among the 2024-25 South Carolina Port Ambassadors class.
The group of 30 South Carolina professionals—including county council members, staff and a representative from SCAC—will get a direct look at how port operations are critical to supporting the state’s economy and keeping the supply chain fluid in the Southeast.
Charleston, Colleton, Dillon, Dorchester, and Jasper counties and an SCAC staff member.
“Upon completion of the program, these Port Ambassadors will be able to go back into their communities and demonstrate how the Port supports one in nine jobs, in every corner of our state,” said SC Ports President and CEO Barbara Melvin.

This year’s class includes the largest number of public sector employees and elected officials. More than 200 participants have completed the program since 2017.
