Check out recent state and federal announcements for funds available to assist with local government projects to reduce energy use, promote efficiency and support transportation alternatives.
Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program
The SC Department of Transportation (SCDOT) this week announced that round one of funding applications for the Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) for fiscal year 2023-24 is now open.
This federal reimbursement grant program through the U.S. Department of Transportation allows local governments and other eligible entities to apply for grants for a variety of non-motorized projects such as pedestrian and bicycle facilities and Safe Routes to Schools.

Energy Efficiency Opportunities
The U.S. Department of Energy and S.C. Energy Office recently announced several funding opportunities including:
- The competitive Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program is available to local governments in South Carolina. The first prerequisite to apply for the EECBG Program is completing the Pre-Award Information Sheet, due April 28 by email to eecbg@hq.doe.gov;
- The EECBG formula funding for which 10 SC counties are initially eligible;
- Mini grants up to $10,000 via the SC Office of Regulatory Staff Energy Office for energy efficiency, renewable energy and clean transportation projects;
- The ConserFund loan program for energy efficiency projects
