Free FOIA & DUI Trainings August 29, 2019, Open to City Attorneys & Law Enforcement Agencies
The South Carolina Commission on Prosecution Coordination is conducting two free trainings in Florence tomorrow, Thursday, August 29. Please note that the Commission’s trainings are not open to persons who personally represent, in any capacity or in any type of legal or administrative matter, individuals charged with crimes or work in an agency or office, in any capacity, with any other persons who do so. By registering to attend, each attendee is certifying that he/she is an employed by a city, county, or state law enforcement or prosecution agency, and further attests and certifies that he/she does not personally represent, in any capacity or in any type of legal or administrative matter, individuals charged with crimes or work in an agency or office, in any capacity, with any other persons who do so.

- "Prosecuting the Impaired Driver: Preparing for the Trial of a DUI Case" training being offered by the South Carolina Commission on Prosecution Coordination on Thursday, August 29, 2019. The program will be held in the Ervin Dining Hall, Francis Marion University in Florence. The program begins with on-site "sign-in" at 8:15 a.m. The presentations will begin at 8:40 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m.
This training will cover DUI case preparation, including a discussion of search and seizure, roadside questioning, field sobriety, recording, and other issues. Also included is a discussion about DataMaster breath testing and toxicology.
This training is open only to law enforcement officers and prosecutors.

- “FOIA Law and Issues for Prosecutors and Law Enforcement” training being offered by the South Carolina Commission on Prosecution Coordination on Thursday, August 29, 2019. The program will be held in the Doctors Bruce & Lee Foundation Library located at 509 S. Dargan Street in Florence. This 2.75 hour program will provide an overview of South Carolina’s Freedom of Information Act, with an emphasis on the purpose of the Act, the obligations it imposes upon prosecutors’ offices, and the consequences of non-compliance. Proposed legislative changes to FOIA will be discussed. Speakers will discuss what to do once you receive a FOIA request. Questions may be submitted in advance to: training@cpc.sc.gov.
The program will be held in the Doctors Bruce & Lee Foundation Library located at 509 S. Dargan Street in Florence. It will begin with on-site "sign-in" at 12:00 p.m. The presentations will begin at 12:25 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.
This training is open only to prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and attorneys who represent law enforcement agencies, as well as municipal and county attorneys and staff who respond to FOIA requests on behalf of city and county governments.
