Allendale County Council's Robinson Begins Term as SCAC President
New officers, board members selected during Association’s 2024 Annual Conference
Allendale County Council Vice Chairman William E. Robinson was elected President of the South Carolina Association of Counties (SCAC) for 2024-25 during the Association’s Annual Conference held July 29-31.
An Allendale County native, Robinson has been in public service for more than four decades and has served on Allendale County Council for 30 years. He succeeds Pickens County Council Vice Chairman Roy Costner III, who was SCAC’s president for 2023-24.
In addition to his county council service, Robinson represents Allendale County on the Lower Savannah Council of Governments and is a volunteer with the Department of Juvenile Justice.
“South Carolina’s 46 counties have unique needs yet face common challenges and opportunities,” Robinson said. “The South Carolina Association of Counties works to empower and amplify the voice of county government, and this year I look forward to working with my colleagues across the state to continue our advocacy, education and collaboration efforts so we can best serve all our constituents.”
Other officers elected for 2024-25 are Chesterfield County Council Vice Chairwoman Mary D. Anderson for First Vice President, Dorchester County Council Vice Chairman C. David Chinnis for Second Vice President, Calhoun County Council Member Cecil M. Thornton Jr. for Third Vice President, Sumter County Council Member Charles T. Edens for Secretary, and Charleston County Clerk of Court Julie J. Armstrong for Treasurer.
In addition, the following members of the Board of Directors were elected to a four-year term: Marion County Council Chairman John Q. Atkinson Jr., Florence County Council Member Alphonso Bradley, Beaufort County Council Chairman Joseph F. Passiment, Cherokee County Council Chairman Timothy F. Spencer, and Orangeburg County Council Chairman Johnnie Wright Sr.
